About Phil O’Neal
Music Educator. Worship Leader. Conductor. Leader.
Meet Phil O’Neal
Phil O’Neal is a music educator, worship leader, and emerging minister committed to forming complete musicians, leaders, and believers through music and ministry.
He serves as Contemporary Worship Leader at Atascocita Methodist Church and Minister of Music at Christ Community Worship Center in Houston, TX.
In the classroom, he is the Head Choral Director at Woodcreek Middle School in Humble ISD, where he leads a thriving, award-winning choral program. Since joining Woodcreek in 2017, his ensembles have earned 20 UIL Sweepstakes awards — including active consecutive Sweepstakes streaks across three ensembles — and his students have earned 193 TMEA Region 33 All-Region Choir placements and 11 Texas All-State Choir placements. Before moving to the secondary level, Phil spent over a decade as an elementary music educator, where his foundation in Orff pedagogy was established and where his approach to kinesthetic, experience-first learning first took shape.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Prairie View A&M University and a Master of Music in Music Education from Boston University. His ensembles have performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall and major stages throughout the Houston area.
He also serves as a TXMAA (Texas Music Adjudicators Association) choral adjudicator across the state of Texas, evaluating programs at the highest levels. A proud U.S. Army Reserve/National Guard veteran, he brings discipline, leadership, and a commitment to excellence into every space he serves.
Phil is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, and the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), reflecting his ongoing commitment to professional excellence, leadership, and service within the broader music and educational community.
Through his work in both the church and the classroom, he brings together structure, artistry, and spiritual depth—bridging the gap between music, ministry, and leadership.

Philosophy & Approach
Forming musicians. Shaping worship. Cultivating excellence.
Phil's work lives at the intersection of multiple musical worlds — classical piano training, Gospel and R&B musicianship, Jazz performance, Orff-based elementary pedagogy, and graduate-level music education. The Maestro Formation System wasn't built in a single classroom. It was forged across a lifetime of musical experience spanning performance, ministry, and teaching at every level — and refined into a framework that directly addresses what developing musicians actually need. His work develops not only skilled musicians, but thoughtful, disciplined, and expressive leaders.
He is the founder of Maestro Music Group, a music education and consulting company dedicated to equipping schools, churches, and educators with tools for musical and organizational excellence. Through this work, he created The Maestro Collective, a platform focused on clinics, workshops, and the development of complete musicians and leaders—bridging pedagogy, worship arts, and leadership development.
Music is more than performance—it is formation.
His work is built on three core principles:
Clarity — understanding what and why
Consistency — building habits that sustain excellence
Connection — aligning musical skill with meaning and purpose
